Local
Community Projects
As much as
we are involved in projects around the world, it is very
important to us to be involved in local projects. As with
international projects, many of our local projects are
done in partnership with other organizations that are
working to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and improve
the lives of children and families.
Hooked on
Jesus: One of our favorite events on the Foundation
calendar is our annual fishing event called "Hooked
on Jesus." This event is free to all who participate
and is divided into two sessions - one for local children,
and the second for people with various physical and mental
disabilities. The Hooked on Jesus event takes place in
the Spring at the home of Kurt and Angie Harris.
Free Movie:
Each Christmas the Foundation hosts a free movie at the
Grand Theater in Du Quoin, IL. In addition to paying for
everyone to see a fun family movie, we also have our "money
booth" that gives kids a chance to win "Grand
Bucks" that can be used for snacks and other movies.
At each movie event a couple of local children will leave
with a new bicycle or other great door prizes.
Community
Improvement: Helping to make our community a better
place for children and families is a burden that the board
members of the Foundation share. Over the past few years
we have provided grills for families to cook out in our
local parks, helped fund improvements to our community
ball fields, and most recently, given $10,000 to make
major improvements to our local swimming pool.
Donations
to local organizations: In addition to our leadership
in the areas mentioned above, we also partner with other
organizations to minister to the physical and spiritual
needs of area families. Organizations that provide financial
and volunteer support to include: The Du Quoin Food Pantry,
Perry Jackson Child Advocacy Center, Big Brothers Big
Sisters, and the Du Quoin Ministerial Alliance.
