Africa Outreach

The Harris Family Christian Foundation has partnered with organizations in Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Kenya to help minister to orphans throughout Africa. It is estimated that there are currently over 600,000 orphans in Africa.

In Zimbabwe we are partnered with the ACTS organization to provide medical care for orphans in Harare, Zimbabwe. ACTS has hired a medical doctor with funds provided by the Foundation, and this doctor is now attending to medical needs in four different orphanages. Many children in Africa die from preventable medical conditions due to a lack of access to medical care.

In Uganda the Foundation was able to act as a bridge between our local grade school and the Rwenzori Empowerment Center in Kasese, Uganda to provide books for the children there. Illiteracy is a very common issue in many parts of Africa, and organizations like RECKAS are working to improve the lives of children through education. The "Builders Club" at the Du Quoin Grade School recently collected over 1,000 books for the Rwenzori Empowerment Center and the Foundation paid to have them shipped to Uganda.

In May the Foundation will send a team to Kenya to minister to orphans in Kitale at the "Challenge Farm" run by Cheri Thompson of Globe International. While working with the orphans in May, the team will also be looking at other opportunities to help the children of Kenya.
